Giorgi Eristavi's play "Divorce" was written in 1849, and its first performance was held on January 14, 1850 in the Tbilisi Gymnasium. This very day is considered the date of establishment of the Georgian professional theater.

The modern version of "Divorce" is directed by Davit Doyashvili. The performance is of a comedy genre and Georgian song and dance are often used in it.
