Information
Mikheil Javakhishvili told a story "Lambalo and Kasha" It was written in 1925. The work is told in the first person. The narrator is a Georgian, a Red Cross doctor who is sent to the area around Lake Urmia during the war.
The action takes place during World War I, in an already weakened Persia, which is forced to turn to both Russia and England in order to somehow save itself. The Russian Empire openly claims this territory and tries to strengthen its positions, both militarily and socially and religiously.
The story clearly shows the chaos, spiritual degradation, and societal fragmentation that accompany all wars. Against this background, the friendship between a Georgian doctor and a Muslim youth, the tolerance of Georgians, the intervention of Russia as a foreign and ugly force among the peoples of the Caucasus, as well as the themes of the historical and political past are particularly emotional.
The setting of the work — the Urmia region — is a kind of Babylonian tower, where people of different religions and nationalities mingle. This diversity is also reflected in the characters' vocabulary.
In the story, good and evil confront each other, as do the young Muslim Mashadi Hassan (nicknamed Lambalo) and the deceived, flailing Assyrian Orthodox Kasha Lazar.
