One of Batumi's most prominent landmarks, Europe Square, is located in the heart of the city and attracts many tourists. The main attraction of the square is the statue of Medea, which is associated with a historically important story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to legend, the Colchian civilization existed on the territory of modern Adjara. Medea, the king\u2019s daughter, was in love with Jason and helped the Argonauts steal the Golden Fleece. This fleece was the symbol of the Colchian kingdom and a source of wealth. Medea and Jason set off on the ship \u201cArgo\u201d to escape, which is also depicted on the statue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medea's name is also connected to the history of medicine. She was an outstanding healer and pharmacist of her time, which is why her name is also associated with medical science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the statue of Medea, holding the Golden Fleece (which is actually gilded), is a symbol of wealth and prosperity. It also represents Georgia's connection to Europe and its cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the center of the square is a small fountain with jets of water rising from the ground, which is especially popular with children - they can walk through them, not get wet, and have fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Europe Square is not very large, it is always well-maintained, green, and illuminated at night. Concerts are often held here, attracting up to five thousand people, and in winter a huge Christmas tree decorates the square.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
